Lent at Saint Mary's

How will you observe a Holy Lent this year? Read on for Lenten opportunities at Saint Mary's!

Daily Devotion

Copies of the 2017 Lenten Meditations booklet are available at the back of the church and in our office.

9:30 am: The Adult Bible Study is continuing our study of John’s Gospel, based on John, the Interpretation Bible Studies series book by Mark A. Matson. All are welcome!

12:00 pm: All Youth in Grades 6 and up are invited to a Renegade Gospel: The Rebel Jesus, a Bible Study that explores what kind of rebel Jesus was in his ministry and asks: what kind of rebel are we expected to be as Christians today?

12:05 pm: You are invited to our regular mid-week celebration of the Holy Eucharist. This service includes optional prayers for healing.

Thursdays (March 9—April 6)

5:30–6:30 pm: Encounter Jesus as the renegade he really was in this Adult Lenten series that asks: does Jesus call us join a rebel movement? If so, what does that look like?

12:05 pm: The Stations of the Cross. Please join Fr. Gary for this devotional journey every Friday in Lent. We will meet in the nave.

By Appointment

The Reconciliation of a Penitent (better known as confession) is included in our prayer book (p. 447), and Fr. Gary is available by appointment to hear your confession. Through the centuries, many have found this rite to be a source of comfort, reassurance, and renewal of their relationship with God.

A Prayer for Ash Wednesday (and useful for all of Lent) (Book of Common Prayer, page 217):

Almighty and everlasting God, you hate nothing you have made and forgive the sins of all who are penitent: Create and make in us new and contrite hearts, that we, worthily lamenting our sins and acknowledging our wretchedness, may obtain of you, the God of all mercy, perfect remission and forgiveness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
