The Weekly Message

Updated on: Friday, August 1, 2014

This Sunday we are celebrating the 8th Sunday after Pentecost, and the readings may be found here. In the weeks after Pentecost we will be using the Track 2 readings. (For a brief discussion of the difference between Tracks 1 and 2, please see the explanation found at the bottom of this lectionary resource page.)

Now - August 2: Early Voting at a New Location

Early voting has begun. Dyer County elections will be held on August 7 and early voting will offered through August 2. Please note that early voting will not be offered at the Dyersburg Mall. Instead, registered voters may exercise their civic opportunity at either the Dyer County Election Office, 103 W. Market St., or the Dyersburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 2280 Parr Ave. (Thanks to Carole Smith for this important reminder!)

August 10: Scott Roberts to Perform at Organ Recital

Our own Scott Roberts will be playing two of his chorale preludes at an organ recital in Memphis on Sunday, August 10 at 4 pm at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 155 Market Street. A festive reception will follow. For more details, please see this flyer.

August 17: "Bon Voyage" Picnic

The parish will be gathering after the late service on Sunday, August 17 for a potluck and picnic to wish Fr. Gary Godspeed as he heads off on his sabbatical and to say farewell and a huge thank you to Evelyn Heun, our Parish Administrator (well, for a few more days anyway...). The parish will provide burgers and BBQ bologna (or is "baloney"?) and homemade ice cream. Please bring your own side, salad, bread, or dessert to share.

A Note from Tiffani Glass about the St. Jude Marathon

Hi Friends, I am once again running for St. Jude. This year I have decided to run the whole 26.2! Please consider helping me reach my goal. This charity is so important to me. You can follow this link to the St. Jude site, see my facebook page or donate through me next time I see you.  Thank you, Tiffani Glass (731-589-0300).

Sunday Morning Bible Study: Read the Bible in a new light

Join us each week at 9:30 am for prayer and study. Our new study is based on And God Said What?, from the book of that name by Margaret Nutting Ralph. We are exploring how the meaning of the Bible may be understood in light of the history and context of the stories, poems, laws, and more we find in our Scripture. All are welcome!

Atrium -- Returns in the fall
